My sister, Janell, has been taking pottery classes using a potter's wheel. She was showing me pictures of what she has been working on. She lamented that they had not turned out as she had envisioned. One day, she tried not to imagine the final product, but instead let the clay reveal what it wanted to be. It was turning into a beautiful vase when, all of a sudden, one side collapsed into a spout. She put a handle on it and it became a beautiful pitcher!
I wonder if God, in giving us our free will, is not the potter who does just that. He listens to us and lets us choose what we want to be, then turns us into the beautiful vessel that He knew we could be.
No matter what you chose in the past, God is transforming you into the likeness of Christ, embracing your uniqueness.
As told in Acts 9, Saul chose to persecute Christians, thinking he was doing God's will. Christ took hold of him, and he became a zealous follower of Christ.

So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to do.
